Garden: Pre-made Compost

Decided to try out some pre-made compost from the local hardware store. It serves as fertiliser and only needs to be applied once in 6 months.

Homeschool: Puzzle time!

This week's Young Scientist lesson was on puzzles!

Since we received a jigsaw puzzle as a gift recently, thought it would be a good idea to let Boy work on one.

Growing Up: HFMD

This is the second time Boy got HFMD. Who knows who he got it from! Especially since he doesn't even attend school. But it was just after the CNY holidays, so it could be from any of those places we visited. Bummer!

It was tough and draining for us all — fever, vomiting, solitary confinement and difficulty in eating.

Unexpected and touching gesture from the Girl.

Visit: National Science Centre

Our National Science Centre is one of the hidden gems in the Klang Valley. At RM3 per kid (and RM6 per adult), it's definitely one of the best value-for-money places to visit.

In the concourse, you're treated to an eye-catching aquarium, as well as a touch pool.

There is a fascinating science show 3 times a day (mostly conducted in BM, with a smattering of English).

Visit: Trip to Malacca

During the CNY hols, I decided to take the kids on a quick day trip to Malacca to visit an old friend.

On the way, we stopped by a lovely tree house, thanks to the hospitality of a mom I met on Facebook. The treehouse is a great work of art and labour of love, handcrafted by family and loved by children. It was recently transported from its original home in Batu Pahat to its new location in Malacca.

Garden: Fun in the Sand

Thankfully, the kiddos took to the sandpit like ... ducks to the water? Haha.

Baby, as expected, enjoyed it the most. Every time Kakak comes in sight, he'd "chase" her away because he's afraid she's there to bring him in.

Garden: Sandpit!

Since Baby's tractors like to play at the beach, and we don't exactly live near one, Mummy came upon the brilliant idea of having a sandpit in the garden.

We found a few online that we could possibly bring back during our overseas travels, but Hubby was concerned that it would be difficult to lug back home. The trouble is, Malaysians aren't really into sandpits, so it's not like you can walk into a store to buy one (unless it's one of those plastic thingys). And we weren't exactly carpenter material.

So we starting scouring nurseries. First option was to get some used railroad sleepers but they were a bit bulky and big.

Then the lifesaver came with Matahari Woodstock's DIY range. We got a 5x5 wooden trough as the main frame, and Matahari even helped me make a cover for the sandpit (so it doesn't become a giant litter box). We also got some ez-Decks, white pebbles and some sawdust off the floor of a nursery for simple landscaping.

Best thing about the simple project was that the kids all had a part to play in it (with Kakak's help, also!), whether it was lining the saw dust, arranging the stones or fixing the frame. I think they'll appreciate it more this way.

Homeschool: Periscope

Today's science lesson was on the periscope.

We didn't get to make our own periscope, but played a bit with whatever mirrors we could find from an underused cosmetic bag. Still worked (somewhat) :-)
